Hann and Hoeben take Summer Series Opener

The first Kalavida Summer SUP series race in the Okanagan was hosted in Vernon on Kalamalka Beach and was a huge success.  It’s a laid-back day that included a skills clinic with RogueSUP’s Norm Hann followed by the races.  Almost 30 paddlers came out to take on the new short courses and the field included athletes from as far away as Vancouver, Osoyoos and Kamloops. Best of Stand Up in 2010 – People, Places and Paddles

Only one year ago in most parts of Canada, Stand Up Paddling was just that sport that “I saw in Hawaii” or “Saw in a magazine” and now it’s quickly become the worlds fastest growing water sport – From coast-to-coast, paddlesurfing, on the lakes, rivers and beyond.  The attraction to SUP comes in many forms and perhaps what makes it most alluring is the freedom it provides us – A chance to get away from our gadgets and busyness and reconnect to nature (and our soul).  So get out and enjoy what many consider as the most versatile water sport ever re-invented – period. 2010 Kalamalka Classic results

It was a near perfect day on water as the athletes took to the calm waters of  Kalamalka Lake early Sunday morning.  A fitting end to what was a great weekend of Stand Up Paddleboarding.  Saturday’s first event was a 3.5 mile race in and around Kaloya Park in Oyama, BC.  Lisette Smid of Coldstream, BC readies for her portage across the park uring the ‘Kaloya Crossover’.
